Uncaged & Unabridged

It's a new year and I'm happy to be able to see all my friends again at the library.  I hope everyone had a nice holiday and has settled back into their routine.  Speaking of routine – has everyone made their resolutions for 2012?  Why not make a resolution to take advantage of all the free programs we offer for children, teens and adults?  There are some extra-special story hour programs coming up in the next couple of months.  Our PSU intern, Miss Jasmine, will be presenting her Nutrition unit "Food Fables for your Table" (getting in shape was another of my resolutions!) and we will be featuring our popular "Piggy Bank Tales" unit in April. We have been talking about featured "literacies" for each month in the Youth Room.  January's focus is on Civic/Social Literacy which includes volunteerism, social awareness and a spirit of giving  I'd like to urge everyone to search their closets for gently-used (or new) coats for our ‘Coats for Kids' collection; hats, gloves and scarves for the ‘Hats off to Harold' collection and pet food, beds, treats etc for the Humane Society.  Everyone knows that the Humane Society is dear to my heart!  In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "Everybody can be great because everybody can serve."
