This Paint Space is a one-session program where participants will be given a beginner-level subject to paint while following along with a YouTube video. All supplies are provided and participants can take their work home at the end of the class. The class is for ages 13 and up and the cost is $10 due at the beginning of class. This is a free escape room for family and friends to test out their teamwork and problem solving skills to see if they can escape in under 60 minutes. The Friends of the Altoona Area Public Library will hold its Fall Used Book Sale on Friday, October 21st from 8:30am – 5pm, and 9am – 4pm on Saturday, October 22nd. Then on Monday, October 24th from 8:30am – 8pm don’t miss the $5/bag sale on the ground floor of the library. For Friends members, the Members’ Pre-Sale will take place on Thursday, October 20th from 5:30pm – 7pm. There are no Sunday hours. The book sale offers very affordable books of all kinds from adult fiction, children’s books, bestsellers to classics, non-fiction such as travel, art, history, home repair, genealogy, health, science, crafts, language, and true crime books. The sale also includes puzzles, DVDs, CDs, AudioBooks, patterns, games and more. All money raised benefits the library.

The R.O.C.K. program from Saint Francis University will be joining us for lots of hands-on learning and fun!

Slime Chemistry, K-5, 1:30-2:10
Love slime and silly putty? Come learn the chemistry behind them! We will discover the difference between a monomer and a dimer as well as the distance between molecules in a polymer by making our own slime and/or silly putty using glue and borax solutions. This is for K-5 and will last approximately 40 minutes.

Food Chemistry, 6th and up, 2:10-3:00
Join us to use chromatography paper to examine the food colorings used in candy, analyze the nutritional elements found in cereal, and explore the surface tension characteristics of milk. This is for 6th grade and up and will last approximately 50 minutes.
