Children in grades 1 -3.
Developing their knowledge of states of matter, young scientists learn to describe the properties of solids, liquids, and gases and categorize them by their identifiable properties in Changes. We will investigate the freezing, melting, evaporation, and condensation of water as an introduction to phase change. Rusting, dissolving, crystallization, gases created by effervescent tablets, and ink separated through chromatography are other phase changes we will create and observe in the lab. This unit strengthens our abilities to observe and describe the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. It also provides many opportunities to predict results, plan and perform simple tests, and analyze, interpret, and discuss results. Adults must stay with and assist their children throughout the program.
Due to social distancing requirements, all activities will be spaced out and limited to the number of active participants. Activities will be individually setup with no sharing of materials. Due to the current capacity limitations, pre-registration is required. Masks are required.
Please call the library at 946-0417 ext. 123 to register.
